The 2009 Mustang
The 2009 Mustang was a carryover of the 2005 Ford Mustang design but had its own bragging rights.
Taking a page from Mercedes Benz cars, the new Mustang made a panoramic roof available as a $1,995 option on both V6 and V8 powered GT cars. The idea was that this option gives you some of the benefits of a drop top, yet it's cost makes it possible to have that extra sunshine at a price that's half way between the cost of a coupe and a convertible.
The warriors in pink car continued into 2009, with its exclusive pink color and interior accents.
Continuing in the category of a "Blast from the Past" FoMoCo brought back the Bullitt which was a tribute to the mean green Mustang machine from the iconic 1968 Steve McQueen movie where he played detective Bullitt.
The original car was a 1968 Highland Green fastback with a 390 cubic inch V8. More information on the original bullitt Mustang and the 2001 version. are in their respective sections.
Also continuing was the exceedingly powerful Mustang Shelby GT500KR King of the road.
Exterior Changes
The 2009 Mustang front sheet metal received small refinements and seems to be moving steadily towards its 2003 auto show concept car beginnings. Different elements of that concept keep showing up, such as the 2008 Shelby GT hood and the shape of the headlight and hood edges. It wouldn't take much more to complete the look at the front end.
And the sneak peaks at the 2012 concept seem to be bringing the hoodline and roof shape even closer.
The styling for the exterior of the Bullitt, include the reappearance of the exclusive Hyland green color or black paint (but why would ya?
The Bullitt treatment blends a combination of GT and V6 styling cues, such as the simple V6 hood coupled with Gt style Torq Thrust like alloy wheels.
Simple yet powerful is the key and it works.
Both the Bullitt and the warriors in pink editions were built at AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, Michigan.
Mustang Super Snake
The 2009 Ford Mustang also received major attention from Mr. Carroll Shelby and Shelby American.
Not content with even 400 plus horsepower, the Super Snake, was created to satisfy those buyers that wanted even more power than a GT500 could make. And that was plenty.
Over six hundred horsepower and refinements to the chassis to get all this power to the ground makes one pretty terrifying snake.
The full details on the Shelby Mustang Super Snake are even more impressive.
Interior Changes
Interior changes are minimal for the 2009 Mustang. The Bullitt gets a revised interior instrument cluster with new gun sight graphics and GT500 style seats.
Ford seems intent on telling you how green they are with seat foam that has up to 5 percent soy based materials. (does this mean if you get lost in the desert you can eat your seats?
Engine and Power Train
The base 4.0 liter V6 engine continues with 210 horse power.
The Gt comes equipped with a 4.6 liter modular engine, producing 300 horsepower, which is unchanged since 2005.
Transmission options include a 5 speed automatic and a Tremec 5 speed manual.
The Ford Racing group provided parts to bump up the 4.6 liter V8 in the Bullitt to 325 horsepwer.
The supercharged 5.4 liter ( 329 cubic inch ) engine in the 09 GT500KR remains at a huge 540 hp keeping its performance levels at the levels of supercars costing several times the admission price of this domestic hot rod.
