Question Re: True 1964 1/2 Mustang
I am looking at a supposed 64 1/2 Mustang. It has some of the features of a 64 1/2 such as the generator and gen. light on the dash as well as the stationary passenger side seat.
Here is the V.I.N. 5R07F101129. Is this really a 1964 1/2 or 1965 with leftover parts from earlier production?
Answer: re true 1964 1/2 Mustang Hi Kenny
First off, 1964 1/2 Mustangs here were very few and only made for a very short time by Ford at their San Jose plant (just during the month of June as far as I know).
Based on my records, with your vin number starting as 5R that means that your car was produced at that plant sometime in June of 1964, probably near the end of June.
It seems very likely that you have a true 1964 1/2 Mustang as by the code, it is listed as having a 260 cubic inch v8 engine.
It breaks down as follows:
5 - 1965 Model year 64.5 or 65 both say 1965 as both types are really 1965 Mustangs.
R - San Jose plant
07 - body serial code, hard top
F - engine code 260 V8
101129 - consecutive unit number of the vehicle
If you have the door data plate I can give you some other information about the car, such as original color and interior, as well as axle ratio and DSO office.
You're right in wondering if it's a real 64 1/2 or not, as Ford did manage to use up it's old parts stock before making all the newer cars.
My 1965 Mustang is certainly testament to that!
Either way, if that's the car you're looking for, it seems like you have found it!
Cheers
B.
